Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl has discussed his future at the club.
It’s been four months since Sheffield Wednesday appointed Rohl.
Since then, the German has overseen 26 games in charge of the Owls, winning 10, drawing three, and losing 13, leaving him with a win percentage of 38.46%.
The 34-year-old, who is the Football League’s youngest boss, has become a widely popular figure among Wednesday fans.
He’s given the club a real chance of survival this season, following Sheffield Wednesday’s disastrous start under Xisco Munoz which saw them go winless in the league after the opening 13 games of the season.
Danny Rohl not drawn into Sheffield Wednesday speculation
With Sheffield Wednesday still facing the possibility of relegation, despite Rohl’s best efforts, there’s a very definite chance that Rohl moves on in the summer should the Owls return to League One.
And discussing his future at Hillsborough with German outlet Kicker (as relayed by Dom Howson on X), Rohl said:
“I go to work every day with a smile on my face, despite the challenging situation in the league table. At the moment, I’m concentrating fully on the current season until May 5 so that it ends the way we want it to.”
Sheffield Wednesday is Rohl’s first job as a manager, having had previous coaching experience with Southampton, Bayern Munich, Red Bull Leipzig, and the German national side.
Survival seems to be the only hope of keeping Rohl
Rohl has definitely shown his class and his potential as a coach with Sheffield Wednesday.
Taking what is largely the same set of players that Munoz had and struggled with, and transforming them into a side that plays attractive and effective football, putting points on the board when nobody thought the Owls had a prayer this season, is some achievement.
And if Wednesday go down then Rohl will no doubt have suitors in the Championship and in Europe, and few would blame him if he moved on to a club with better prospects.
But Rohl says above that he is enjoying his time with the club. He’s built a very strong relationship with the fans who adore him and if Sheffield Wednesday stay up this season, it seems like a certainty that Rohl stays.
Relegation and managing in League One though would not be great for Rohl’s CV.
The Owls now find themselves three points adrift after winning three of their last four in the Championship, with a crunch match vs Rotherham United coming up this weekend.
