Sheffield Wednesday had to settle for a point in their Good Friday clash vs Swansea City.
Sheffield Wednesday returned to Championship action and to Hillsborough with a visit from Swansea City on Friday.
In the first of two crucial Easter fixtures for the Owls, Danny Rohl‘s side had to make do with just the one point despite a dominant display.
Sheffield Wednesday took the lead in the first half through Bailey Cadamarteri who scored his first league goal of 2024.
Swansea started the second half brightly, with James Beadle pulling off a ‘superb’ save to keep the scores level.
But eventually the Swans found a way back in with Jamal Lowe capitalising on some poor Wednesday defending.
The Owls have numerous chances to re-take the lead after that, but the Swans stood firm.

It was another solid performance from the Owls.
And a solid performance was needed after the 6-0 defeat vs Ipswich Town before the break.
There was several standout performances within the Sheffield Wednesday ranks as well; Beadle had a god game, Bambo Diaby did well coming in for Di’Shon Bernard before kick-off, and Will Vaulks ran the midfield in Barry Bannan‘s absence.
And once again, Marvin Johnson showed why he’s so highly-rated by Rohl.
The 33-year-old returned to his familiar left wing-back position after a tough outing against Ipswich Town before the break.
And Johnson was up and down the wing constantly; putting crosses into the box and passing into the two strikers, even going on corners and showing his dead ball quality.
Joe Crann wrote of his performance:
“Battled tremendous up and down the left, showed defensive nous when required and put some really dangerous balls into the box.”
As per Sofascore, Johnson won 8 out of 13 duels (more than any Wednesday player), all of them ground duels (more than anyone on the pitch).
Johnson also made 5 defensive actions in the game (6th-most of anyone on the pitch), with 1 clearance, 1 interception, and 3 tackles (3rd-most of anyone).
And Johnson also attempted more crosses than any of his teammates (5), with 1 finding a target.
Marvin Johnson’s Sheffield Wednesday future a pressing issue
Johnson signed a contract extension ahead of this season.
Although the length of his extension was never officially disclosed, it’s widely speculated and reported that he’s one of the many Sheffield Wednesday players out of contract in the summer.
And after performances like his one against Swansea, Rohl will surely be keen to keep him at the club.
Though if Sheffield Wednesday are relegated then plenty of Championship teams might fancy a punt on Johnson.
The type of left wing-back that Johnson is has become very rare and very sought-after; not only a player who can get up and down the wing and put pinpoint crosses into the ball, but also someone who can win duels, like his stats vs Swansea prove.
He’s a very important and experienced player who’ll be crucial during this run-in.
Sheffield Wednesday travel to Middlesbrough on Monday.
