Sheffield Wednesday drew at home vs Coventry City in the FA Cup fourth round last night, with a few classy individual performance in the Owls’ ranks.

It was a tight game and another in which Sheffield Wednesday held their own against strong Championship competition.
The Sky Blues had the lead at half-time thanks to a wonder strike from Victor Torp, but the Owls leveled things in the second half through the impressive Djeidi Gassama, booking themselves a replay at the CBS Arena.
Gassama shone last night and so too did debutant goalkeeper Pierce Charles. But Barry Bannan maybe went under the radar with another classy performance in midfield.
Barry Bannan dominates stats in the middle of the park
Bannan pulled the strings for Sheffield Wednesday last night, as he so often does.
As per Sofascore, the 34-year-old made 6 key passes (more than anyone on the pitch), with 58 out of 69 passes completed (most), 85 touches of the ball (2nd most), and 1 assist, setting up Gassama for his second half goal.
The Star rated his performance a 7/10 on the night. But Bannan’s presence was easy to miss last night; he kept play ticking over and put himself about, as he always does, showing no signs of slowing down despite his advancing age.
Bannan still has class at Championship level
Despite a very turbulent season for Sheffield Wednesday, both on and off the pitch, they still have Bannan performing at consistently high level.
The Scot had a few poor performances at the start of the season, as did almost all of his teammates, but he’s since come back to his best and last night’s performance was a typically classy one from him.
He kept play ticking over well. He also covered a lot of ground for the Owls, helping them to largely dominate midfield and spring attacks on Coventry when they had the chance.
His role under Danny Rohl has changed a bit in the past few games with Bannan deployed as a no.10 against Southampton earlier in the month, but once again as a more holding midfielder last night, with Rohl opting for two strikers.
But wherever he plays, Bannan continues to be Sheffield Wednesday’s most creative and reliable player and if the Owls stand any chance of survival this season, then Bannan will need to be at his usual best.
