Sheffield Wednesday are on the lookout for a new striker this month, and this Premier League man could be ideal.
Sheffield Wednesday’s need in this month’s transfer window is clear; a new striker.
Danny Rohl has already outlined the club’s need for added quality up top but so far, only Birmingham City striker Scott Hogan has been linked.
Bailey Cadamarteri is currently carrying a lot of pressure on his young shoulders, and he’s delivering with three goals to his name in 11 Championship outings.
But the Owls can’t place all their hope on the 18-year-old.
Kieffer Moore potentially set for January move with Leeds United in race
Moore, 31, currently plays for Bournemouth but is finding gametime hard to come by, with just seven Premier League appearances to his name this season, and one goal.
But he’s a tried and tested name in the Championship; the 39-cap Welsh international has 47 goals in 155 total outings in the second tier, across spells with the likes of Barnsley, Cardiff City, and Bournemouth; whilst at Cardiff, then boss Mick McCarthy described Moore as an ‘amazing’ striker.
Recent reports have revealed that Bournemouth are open to letting Moore go this month, with Leeds United and West Brom among the teams interested.
Why Sheffield Wednesday should join the race
Obviously, Sheffield Wednesday need strikers, so entering the race for Moore seems like a sensible move.
But it could also be a very realistic move too.
Game time at somewhere like Leeds, a team full of attacking talent and firepower, might be much harder to come by for Moore, whereas at Hillsborough where Cadamarteri is really the only decent option for Rohl, game time should be more available.
And with Rohl working wonders at Wednesday, the club is a much more attractive destination for players than it was in the summer, so players of Moore’s ilk may well be inclined to join for the second half of the season.
What’s more is that Moore is apparently earning £15,000-a-week, and given reports earlier in the season that Owls owner Dejphon Chansiri was ready to spend £30,000-a-week on signing a loan striker this moth, it makes Moore a suitable option.
Sheffield Wednesday need additions across the pitch but right now, a new striker seems like a priority, as an injury to Cadamarteri would really leave the Owls lacking up front.
Moore is a very experienced and proven option and he looks set to be on the move, and he also appears to be within Wednesday financial means.
So whilst a move remains ambitious, it certainly seems to have potential.
