Sheffield Wednesday are looking to unearth their next star, currently having a youngster on trial with the club.

Sheffield Wednesday under Danny Rohl are placing a lot more focus on their youth academy.

It’s not something that the Owls have done a lot of during Dejphon Chansiri’s reign. But Rohl, soon after arriving at Hillsborough, laid out his vision for the academy.

Rohl clearly stated that he wanted to include more of the club’s academy players in his first-team squad.

He started with Bailey Cadamarteri, then Pierce Charles, with names like Joey Phuthi, Gui Siqueira, and Sean Fusire have all featured for the first-team, with Nathaniel Otegbayo the latest to receive praise from Rohl.

The Owls also place more focus on youth recruitment, with names like Sam Reed having joined up with the club’s academy since Rohl took charge last October.

Now, it’s reported that Sheffield Wednesday are taking a look at another potential youth addition.

Sheffield Wednesday hand trial to Bradford City youngster Donald Kamwa

Sheffield Wednesday played Steel City rivals Sheffield United in an U21s clash on Monday night.

Devlan Moses scored the Owls’ only goal in what was a 2-1 defeat at Bramall Lane. But interestingly, Wednesday included a triallist in their ranks.

The Star has since revealed that trialist to be Bradford City academy attacker Donald Kamwa.

The 18-year-old Englishman featured once for the Bantams in the FA Youth Cup last season. But it’s not known how long he’s been training with the Owls or how advanced a potential deal is.

Kamwa came off the bench when Wednesday were two goals behind.

Sheffield Wednesday focus on youth is key

For teams like Sheffield Wednesday who don’t have huge resources to go out and buy the best players, placing focus on youth is crucial.

It’ll give Rohl a steady stream of potential first-team options, and should any prevail, they could become very valuable assets for the Owls.

That’s something that the club simply hasn’t done enough of in recent years and so this newfound focus on the academy is key.

And if more and more players join and get their chance in the first-team, it’ll tempt players like Kamwa to join up and try their hand.

It remains to be seen whether or not the Owls snap up Kamwa from Yorkshire rivals Bradford City.

But it’s an exciting link to keep an eye on nonetheless.
