Sheffield Wednesday are refusing to give up on their seven-figure transfer pursuit of this one player.
Sheffield Wednesday are desperate to get some new faces over the line before the January transfer window slams shut tomorrow.
Danny Rohl‘s side have had a very subdued window so far with James Beadle and Ike Ugbo being the only signings, but there’s a couple of names on the Owls‘ radar as things stand.
One such name is Duncan McGuire; the Orlando City striker has been heavily linked with a move to Hillsborough but it looks like Blackburn Rovers could have outbid the Owls.

Yesterday, it was claimed that the USMNT striker was on the verge of sealing a move to Ewood Park, before it was then claimed that Sheffield Wednesday’s bid of £2.75million remained the highest bid.
There’s a lot of back and forth regarding McGuire’s future but there’s definitely seems to be strong interest there, especially so from Sheffield Wednesday.
Last night, journalist Joe Crann posted on X, revealing that the Owls ‘hadn’t given up’ on signing the 22-year-old:
McGuire joined Orlando City from Lane City last year. He went on to score 13 MLS goals in his first season playing in the US top flight, with 15 goals in 37 total appearances for Orlando City last year; form that earned him his first cap for the USMNT.

Like Crann says, we’re now well into the final 48 hours of the transfer window and for Sheffield Wednesday, it’s a huge 48 hours.
What business they manage to do in these hours will heavily dictate their fortunes in the Championship this season and so getting some new bodies through the doors is vital.
So it’s no surprise to see Sheffield Wednesday splashing out so much on McGuire, and no surprise to hear that they’re not going to give up on this potential signing.
Rohl and Dejphon Chansiri though need a back up plan in case a move for McGuire does fall through.
Expect the club to have a number of players on their wish list, but whether or not they have enough time to now get them over the line remains to be seen.
It certainly looks like we’re in for a frantic finale to this month’s transfer window.
