Sheffield Wednesday have now begun their search for a new defensive midfielder.
Sheffield Wednesday have been left with very limited options in the middle of the park after a number of players departed this summer.
Barry Bannan and Svante Ingelsson are now their only natural, central midfielders, while Will Vaulks’ exit has left them without a more defensive-minded player.
The Owls have already made eight new signings in the first month of the transfer window and are now looking to pick up a new No.6.
After opening up their wallet this summer, Wednesday are now returning to the free-agent market for their next addition.

Sheffield Wednesday express interest in Nathaniel Chalobah
According to journalist Joe Crann, the Yorkshire club are ‘looking into’ a deal for former Chelsea and West Brom midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah.
The ‘brave’ 29-year-old has spent a majority of his career out on loan in the Championship since signing his first professional deal with Chelsea in 2012, before joining Watford permanently five years later.
Chalobah has since played for Fulham and West Brom, making 33 appearances in the Championship last season before he was released.
Danny Rohl is a fan of the free-agent and is eager to bring him to Hillsborough, while Crann claims they are hopeful they can fend off plenty of interest in him.
It remains to be seen whether Wednesday are at all close to snapping up Chalobah, with talk of his future being particularly quiet since leaving The Hawthorns.
Is the former Chelsea man worth the wages?
The Chelsea academy graduate definitely fits the bill for what the Owls are missing and is definitely a top player on the day.
However, he has very rarely managed to nail down a regular place in any squad he has been in.
Chalobah made only seven starts for West Brom last term, while he has only ever been a key player in Watford’s 2020-21 season.
The midfielder is still relatively risk-free on a free transfer, though it is believed that he was raking in around £20,000-per-week with the Baggies.
Bannan was the only player to earn over £20k-per-week last season at Hillsborough, so Chalobah may be asked to take a pay-cut if he was to join the club.
This could well put him off, but Wednesday only seem to be getting a good deal if they aren’t forced to go above and beyond to pay his wages.
