The deadline day saga regarding Duncan McGuire, Sheffield Wednesday, and Blackburn Rovers, has predictably taken yet another twist.

McGuire has been the man on the minds of many Sheffield Wednesday and indeed Blackburn Rovers fans over the past 48 hours.

The one-cap USMNT striker, who scored 15 goals in all competitions for Orlando City in 2023, is currently in England as he looks to complete a move to the Championship.

Blackburn and Wednesday are the two teams vying for his signature; Rovers were in front, then Sheffield Wednesday, with Maguire currently in Sheffield amid ongoing talks with Danny Rohl‘s side.

But a move to Hillsborough has hit yet another obstacle with Sky journalist Alan Myers now revealing that the 22-year-old’s party have resumed talks with Blackburn Rovers.

Myers posted on X:

Sheffield Wednesday and Duncan McGuire not over yet

It’s looking clear now that this transfer will go right down to the wire. And there’s no guarantee that McGuire even seals his move, given all the commotion that’s going on.

But with McGuire currently in Sheffield, it could give the Owls the upper hand, with the player clearly keen on pushing through his move before tonight’s 11pm transfer deadline.

But, like the Owls, Blackburn aren’t giving up on the player jus yet, and with the club pushing through a big money move for Adam Wharton to join Crystal Palace, Rovers could simply outbid Sheffield Wednesday and put this transfer to bed.

It’s going to be a chaotic end to the transfer window with Sheffield Wednesday looking like they’re currently putting all their energy into getting a move for McGuire over the line.

And if the Owls can pull it off then it could be a game-changer for them; last night’s draw vs Watford highlighted a distinct lack of end product in the side, but McGuire would bring just that and give Sheffield Wednesday a real chance of survival.
