Sheffield Wednesday have recently appointed a new Head of Recruitment, suggesting that the Owls will be active in next month’s transfer window.
Kevin Beadell has come in as Head of Recruitment this week.
He joins the Sheffield Wednesday backroom team which, since Danny Rohl‘s arrival in October, has steadily been pieced together, becoming what now looks like one of the strongest in the division.
But the Owls remain in a perilous league position and so January will be a crucial month for the club.
And speaking ahead of this weekend’s Championship clash vs Stoke City, Rohl has given perhaps his clearest indication yet of what he wants in January.
Rohl looking to bring in young talent at Sheffield Wednesday
Rohl has said on multiple occasions now that he has a clear idea of what he wants to do next month.
And now he’s suggested the profile of player he wants.
Speaking to The Star ahead of this weekend, Rohl revealed that he’s looking to recruit younger talents who can improve the team for the future.
“Sometimes you need a good player in a key position and this costs money, but also I am looking for young players to come in so I can improve them,” said the Owls boss.
“Now we have to find a good balance between who can help us immediately and give us a good impact, and maybe who is the guy to improve us in the next weeks and be ready for the future.”
Building for the future
A rebuild has been coming for a while.
Sheffield Wednesday have been relying on the same set of players for a long time now and whilst many of them still have a lot to offer, there needs to be more of a thought for the future.
Bailey Cadamarteri‘s emergence has perhaps highlighted that a bit more.
His breakthrough is great to watch and it’s given Rohl someone to build a team around, and it’s also proved to Rohl that the Wednesday academy can produce top talents, so expect more to be given a chance this season.
But the German looks set to bring in some fresh blood next month, and set to bring in some youthful blood to give this Sheffield Wednesday side a bit of a rejuvenation.
Like Rohl says though, balance is needed.
These younger players he wants to bring in may not necessarily help in the fight for survival, whereas more experienced pros might.
