Sheffield Wednesday look set to lose George Byers before 11pm tonight, and another Owls midfielder could yet follow him out of the doors.
There could be a few coming and going at Hillsborough today, with Sheffield Wednesday looking set to be busier than most before the January transfer window closes at 11pm tonight.
Byers is one who’s now being heavily linked with a move away, with Blackpool and Barnsley reportedly battling to sign the 27-year-old.
Now though, it’s been revealed that Sheffield Wednesday’s relegation rivals Rotherham United are keen on Will Vaulks, who is one of the many out of contract in the summer.
Rotherham United lodge enquiry for Will Vaulks
Journalist Joe Crann has now revealed on X that South Yorkshire rivals Rotherham have lodged an enquiry for Vaulks, 30, who’s featured 19 times for the Owls in the Championship this season.
But Crann adds that, because Rotherham are a ‘direct relegation rival’ to Sheffield Wednesday, a deal may be difficult for the Millers to pull off.

Letting Byers go is bad enough. But if the Owls also let Vaulks go as well, and to Rotherham, it would certainly give fans reason to be alarmed.
Although it doesn’t look likely, it seems like Wednesday are perhaps open to letting Vaulks go, given Crann’s wording; the fact that because Rotherham are a relegation rival, that’s why a move would be difficult.
Hopefully though, the Byers and Vaulks stories point towards Sheffield Wednesday having a deal for a new midfielder in the pipelines, as well as keeping their noses in the race for Duncan McGuire.
We’re now into the final 12 hours of the transfer window and it promises to be a crazy ending for Danny Rohl‘s Sheffield Wednesday.
The Owls remain in 23rd place of the table compared to Rotherham United in last place, with four points separating the two teams.
