Sheffield Wednesday were being linked with a potential swoop for Lyle Taylor earlier in the season.
Following Sheffield Wednesday’s dreadful start to the season under Xisco Munoz, many were urging the Owls to hit the free agent market and bring in a new striker.
Many were calling for the likes of Andre Gray to come in, though it was Taylor who was actually brought in on trial during Munoz’s reign.
Munoz confirmed that the 33-year-old was on trial at Middlewood Road but he ultimately didn’t sign the for the Owls.
But yesterday, League One club Wycombe Wanderers announced the free signing of Taylor, almost five months after his release by Nottingham Forest.
The Chairboys have top six ambitions in League One this season but have had a tough campaign so far, with Matt Bloomfield’s side having been inconsistent.
They currently sit in 12th place of the table, whereas Sheffield Wednesday remain rooted to the foot of the Championship table following their promotion from the third tier last time round.

The Taylor story made for a good debate.
He certainly proved his worth at Championship level in previous years with the likes of Birmingham City and Charlton Athletic, but he hasn’t played regular football in a long time.
So dropping down to League One may be the best bet for Taylor and Wycombe may well have made a very good signing; though whether or not he can hit the ground running having not played in so long remains to be seen.
Sheffield Wednesday remain in dire need of improvement and of goals too with just seven to their name after the opening 16 games of the season, but the best free agents are now taken and so Danny Rohl may look towards January as a key period.
Could the Owls spend (anything) in January?
What Rohl’s January budget might be remains to be seen.
But the German may have made Wednesday a slightly more attractive place for Premier League or indeed Championship clubs to send their young players out on loan, so there’s that hope for the Owls.
January will certainly prove pivotal in deciding Sheffield Wednesday’s fate this season and if Rohl can be given the resources to bring in some quality across the pitch, the Owls might have a fighting chance.
Given the club’s ongoing, off-field issues though, it seems unlikely that Dejphon Chansiri will pump too much funding into the club in the winter transfer window.
