An update has emerged on the future of Sheffield Wednesday attacker Josh Windass.
Josh Windass has become one of Sheffield Wednesday’s most important players since joining the club from Wigan Athletic in 2020.
The 30-year-old has netted 37 goals and provided 17 assists in 128 appearances for The Owls, as well as bagging the all-important late winner in last season’s play-off final clash with Barnsley.
Windass is one of many key players who are out of contract in the summer though, and he is now a target for more than one club.
The attacking midfielder reportedly has multiple suitors in the MLS, with Real Salt Lake named as one side who are looking to bring Windass to the United States.
There has also been talk about a surprise move to Argentina with Atletico Talleres – the same club who had held talks with Windass back in 2022.
Sheffield Wednesday are yet to begin negotiations over a new contract with Windass, with Danny Rohl already admitting that he wanted to focus on the Championship before attending to contractual matters.
This has led to doubts over his future though, and while it remains unclear whether he will put pen to paper on a new deal, The Star have reported that it is ‘highly unlikely’ that he will leave Hillsborough in the near future.
Journalist Alex Miller wrote: “Often admired by clubs elsewhere, Windass is an important player for Wednesday, particularly under Rohl. Atletico Talleres are reported to have returned to their interest and The Star understands a bid has been received from MLS side Real Salt Lake.
“Windass told reporters no contract talks have been had with Wednesday. Seems highly unlikely he’ll go anywhere.”

Josh Windass could still potentially leave Sheffield Wednesday in the summer if the club opt not to extend his stay, but that would come as a big surprise.
The 30-year-old has made it clear how much he is enjoying playing under Danny Rohl and he is also well loved at Hillsborough himself.
Windass has netted three goals in his last four games for The Owls and is proving how important he will be in the club’s bid to avoid relegation.
Whether they are in the Championship or League One next term, he remains a vital player under Rohl and it would be a huge mistake to let him leave at the end of the season.
