Dom Howson has predicted what Sheffield Wednesday’s next move will be after the signing of Nathaniel Chalobah.

Sheffield Wednesday have managed an impressive nine confirmed signings so far ahead of the 2024/25 Championship campaign, with former Manchester United striker Charlie McNeill arriving in S6 earlier this week.

The Owls have strengthened all across the pitch with signings, as well as tie down the futures of some of their key players last season, including Barry Bannan and Liam Palmer.

Svante Ingelsson had been signed from Bundesliga 2 outfit Hansa Rostock, however German boss Danny Rohl was adamant to make further additions in the centre of the park.

They have now since signed another midfielder in Nathaniel Chalobah, who has Premier League experience and a cap for England.

After nine arrivals in total, Dom Howson has had his say on which Sheffield Wednesday players may be on their way out ahead of the new season.

Dom Howson predicts ‘a few outgoings’ at Sheffield Wednesday

Rohl had a threadbare squad prior to the summer window, but has now since been able to add many new faces, creating doubt as to who will be on their way out of Sheffield Wednesday this summer.

Dom Howson on X said: “You’ve got to think there’s going to be a few outgoings in the next couple of weeks.

“Would definitely be loaning out Charles/Hall for a start. Shipston too.”

Pierce Charles and Rio Shipston have both featured for the Sheffield Wednesday first team, however goalkeeper Jack Hall is still yet to have a taste of senior football in his career.

Young shot-stopper Charles is the only one of the three who has been given a start for Sheffield Wednesday first team, with him getting two 90 minute appearances against Coventry City in the FA Cup during the 2023/24 campaign.

Will Sheffield Wednesday need to let go of senior players

It’s likely that if Charles, Hall or Shipston were on their way out from Sheffield Wednesday, it would likely be just a loan move.

18-year-old Pierce Charles in particular will be one to keep an eye on as a potential first team goalkeeper in years to come.

However, it’s also necessary that Rohl makes cuts to his first team squad as well, especially with the German manager looking to bring further additions to Hillsborough.

Looking at the senior squad, Rohl may have to make cuts to his attacking options, including the likes of Mallik Wilks and Bailey Cadamarteri.

Whilst Cadamarteri is a valuable asset to the club and will be an important player in the future, a loan move could ensure that he gets the game time he needs to aid his development, whilst Wilks has struggled to cement a place in the starting line-up ever since his arrival.

Rohl having a bloated squad could cause unnecessary issues, therefore he will have to make cuts in the first team squad.
