Danny Rohl has provided an update on contract talks ahead of a number of summer expiries.
Danny Rohl has enjoyed rapidly growing popularity since he replaced Xisco Munoz in the Sheffield Wednesday hot seat.
The German led The Owls to their sixth win of the Championship campaign last night, taking them within three points of safety.
While the Sheffield Wednesday squad are clearly in a very good place at the minute and could well retain their second tier status, they still have some very worrying contract matters to attend to.
A whopping eleven players will see their contracts at Hillsborough expire this summer, while a further four players will leave at the end of their loan deals.
A number of players could leave Sheffield Wednesday on a free transfer if they don’t put pen to paper on a new deal in the coming months, while others could even agree to a pre-contract agreement in January if they are to move abroad.
It is not just fringe players that are out of contract either, in fact a majority are first team regulars.
While Tyreeq Bakinson looks set to join Standard Liege and Lee Gregory could drop down to League One, the likes of Barry Bannan, Dominic Iorfa and Di’Shon Bernard are all approaching the end of their contracts.
It is a huge worry that the club and fans can’t ignore, while Danny Rohl has promised that The Owls will look to negotiate new deals for some of their biggest stars.
Speaking to The Star, Rohl said: “For sure we will do this. But it is on both sides, you know? If you are in our situation then sometimes the club want to extend a contract but the player is maybe waiting to see some other situations.
“We will see in the next weeks what we can do and I have this also in my mind.
“I have ideas for the short term but also for the long term and what we can prepare for the summer. At the moment it is about health, we have two weeks with the cup and then we have to go to Southampton and by this time hopefully we can do something in the transfer market.”
Who will stay and who will go?
Ciaran Brennan, Lee Gregory and Tyreeq Bakinson all look set to leave, while we can expect Ashley Fletcher, Devis Vasquez and Jeff Hendrick to return to their parent clubs. Momo Diaby‘s future will likely depend on the second half of the campaign, with the Championship club holding the option to buy the midfielder.
The likes of Di’Shon Bernard, Will Vaulks, Dominic Iorfa, Barry Bannan, Josh Windass could be subject to negotiations, while others like Cameron Dawson, George Byers and Liam Palmer may depend on relegation.
