It is believed that Sheffield Wednesday were targeting a Bayern Munich player this summer.
Sheffield Wednesday have been one of the busiest teams in the Championship since the season ended, snapping up nine new players and tying five players down to new contracts – as well as Danny Rohl.
The Owls have signed a few players from abroad, but have mostly focused on bringing in some Premier League and Championship experience.
It was initially expected that Rohl would use his connections in the Bundesliga to make some new signings, as well as his relationship with Barcelona manager Hansi Flick.
Wednesday are yet to use either to their advantage, but Rohl has now admitted that he has tried to bring in some players from his home country.

Sheffield Wednesday may have been ‘looking’ at Frans Kratzig
Speaking to The Star, Rohl said: ““We were looking for some loans from the Bundesliga, but this is sometimes not possible.
“They might go from a big club to Stuttgart, for example; Stuttgart are playing in the Champions League. There is a player we were interested in, we had a good talk, but this is normal.
“We have to look at our ESC, this is also important with what is possible and what is not possible, in which position. A loan is always nice to have, it is important for us and will be important this season. But we have also signed players to us, these are our players and this is what we need. We will see at the end.”
The Star then added that they believe the player he was looking at could have been Frans Kratzig, who joined Stuttgart on loan last month.
The 21-year-old was previously an attacking midfielder but was converted to a left-back for Bayern Munich II.
Kratzig made his Bundesliga debut in September, as well as his Champions League debut two months later.
After making eight senior appearances for Bayern, he was sent out on loan to Austria Wien last season and picked up four goal contributions in 17 matches.
Kratzig joined Stuttgart on loan in June, with the option to make the move permanent.
Rohl hasn’t failed if he doesn’t use his Bundesliga connection
The German seems like an ambitious target for Wednesday, but one that Rohl clearly felt like he could sign due to his time with the Bundesliga giants.
It is a breath of fresh air to see the Owls able to target players like that, but like Rohl said, it is always going to be incredibly difficult for them to challenge the likes of Stuttgart to make these signings.
The Yorkshire outfit went onto sign Max Lowe instead though, who has two promotions and 18 Premier League appearances to his name.
The 27-year-old seems like a very decent alternative to Kratzig and shows that Wednesday don’t have to look to the Bundesliga if there is a quality option on home soil.
