It has been two months since Cameron Dawson ended his 14-year stay at Sheffield Wednesday.
The goalkeeper had racked up 129 appearances for the Owls, but had played second fiddle to James Beadle last season.
Sheffield Wednesday did offer him a contract, however he eventually decided to reject it in favour of a move to Rotherham United.
Dawson hadn’t been a regular start since his loan spell at Exeter City during the 2021-22 season and was clearly eager to become the number one choice elsewhere.
The 29-year-old made the brief trip to Rotherham and was eager to play a key role in their bid for an immediate return to the Championship.

Dawson struggles to earn regular spot at Rotherham
Dawson has featured for The Millers in their Carabao Cup win over Crewe Alexandra, as well as their victory in the EFL Trophy against Mansfield Town.
However, he doesn’t appear to be Rotherham’s first choice as he was benched for both of their opening League One fixtures.
The Yorkshire outfit instead opted to give Dillon Phillips a chance, who made only two appearances in the second division last season.
Dawson surely joined Rotherham with the intention of being a starter and one can only assume that was what he was promised too.
However, that doesn’t seem to be the case and it now appears that unless Phillips makes a big mistake, Dawson could be set for another season in the dugout.
Should Dawson have stayed at Sheffield Wednesday?
The 29-year-old was very unlikely to force his way ahead of Beadle at Hillsborough, but it surely would have been worth staying for another year in his hometown rather than moving to the division below to still be second choice.
Dawson will be extremely frustrated if his place on the bench continues and surely would have jumped at the chance to go elsewhere if he knew this was going to happen.
Hopefully he can put on some good performances in the one of the domestic cup competitions and tempt Steve Evans to give him his League One debut as soon as possible.
As for Wednesday, Dawson would have been a good back-up option given his experience and his love for the club, however Ben Hamer and Pierce Charles both offer plenty of cover.
Hamer has over 150 appearances in the Championship, while Charles is a very promising prospect that is likely to have a big future at the club.
