Sheffield Wednesday look set for yet another busy summer transfer window this year.
As often is the case at Sheffield Wednesday, the summer transfer window looks set to be another frantic one.
The Owls are making a nasty habit of having several players all out of contract in the same summer, and the case is once again the same.
Among the names out of contract at the end of this season are Barry Bannan, Di’Shon Bernard, and Josh Windass, though Danny Rohl wants to keep those three.
Others include Liam Palmer and Will Vaulks among more.
With that in mind, here are three Championship free agents Sheffield Wednesday could sign this summer…
Alex McCarthy
Perhaps top of Sheffield Wednesday’s summer transfer list will be a goalkeeper.
Cameron Dawson sees his Hillsborough contract expire whilst James Beadle sees his loan deal expire, leaving youngster Pierce Charles as the only contracted goalkeeper beyond this season.
Thankfully, there’s a selection of Championship shot-stoppers out of contract in the summer, though the pick of the bunch might be Southampton man Alex McCarthy.
The one-cap England goalkeeper worked under Rohl at St Mary’s and would bring definite experience and pedigree to the Sheffield Wednesday XI.
Jamie Vardy in last chance Sheffield Wednesday saloon
Sheffield-born striker and lifelong Wednesday fan Jamie Vardy is another name out of contract in the summer.
And Sheffield Wednesday look set to be on the hunt for strikers this summer with Ike Ugbo set to return to parent club Troyes, and with Bailey Cadamarteri having struggled in recent months.
But Vardy could be the perfect mentor for Cadamarteri, and at 37 years old, Vardy may well feel that now is the final chance for him to pull on the blue and white of Wednesday.
The Owls would certainly need Championship football to tempt him, but it seems like a very plausible move.
Vardy has proven once again this season that he’s still a prolific striker, with 12 in 26 Championship games this season.
Danny Batth
Experienced centre-back Danny Batth looks set to leave Norwich City in the summer, and for a lot of clusb in the Championship, he’d be a real coup.
Rohl may well need one or two centre-backs in the summer if Bernard and Palmer are among the departees.
Batth, 33, has featured just 11 times in the Championship for Norwich despite being named Sunderland’s Player of the Season last time round.
He’s a commanding centre-back with great ball-playing ability, which is something the Owls have needed all season long.
He could be a really strong addition to the Wednesday XI for next season.
