Sheffield Wednesday team news and predicted lineup vs Cardiff City as Danny Rohl makes one change

Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl has a few selection calls to make ahead of his side’s Championship clash against Cardiff City on Saturday.

Sheffield Wednesday are in action on Saturday lunchtime where they welcome Cardiff City to Hillsborough.

Only three points separate the two teams. Wednesday sit in 15th place of the Championship table right now but the Bluebirds sit in 22nd following a rather miserable first third of the season for the Welsh outfit.

The Owls are looking to bounce back from their defeat in the Steel City derby against Sheffield United before the break, which Danny Rohl’s side lost 1-0 at Bramall Lane.

Cardiff are also looking to bounce back from defeat after losing their last two in the Championship, having previously gone six games unbeaten.

Sheffield Wednesday team and injury news vs Cardiff City

Sheffield Wednesday have a couple of players returning from injury and potentially featuring in the squad to take on Cardiff City.

Nathaniel Chalobah and Michael Ihiekwe are fit again for Rohl and could be named on the bench against Cardiff City.

Speaking in his press conference on Thursday afternoon, Rohl revealed that only Akin Famewo and Olaf Kobacki are injured for Sheffield Wednesday, with the rest of his players fit and available.

Sheffield Wednesday predicted XI to face Cardiff City

Given what was a solid performance against Sheffield United, and with no new injury concerns, Rohl may pick the same XI as last time out, or a very similar XI.

He’ll be hoping that Shea Charles has returned fit and firing from international duty having played twice with Northern Ireland.

There might be a concern over Di’Shon Bernard who featured once for Jamaica, but in the early hours of Monday morning over in the USA.

Bernard is often rested after the internationals but seems likely to start this weekend, given the lack of options in the middle and the unlikelihood of Rohl starting Ihiekwe after several weeks out.

Elsewhere, Ike Ugbo struggled once again for the Owls last time out. Even though Rohl defends Ugbo’s form at Sheffield Wednesday, many fans think Michael Smith is the best option to lead the line right now.

Here’s how we think Sheffield Wednesday will line up against Cardiff City this weekend…
