Sheffield Wednesday must plot late loan swoop for prolific Championship striker

Sheffield Wednesday remain in desperate need of new signings, with a new striker still looking like a priority.

Sheffield Wednesday went into this month’s transfer window in dire need of a new striker signing.

And the Owls acted fast to bring in Ike Ugbo on loan from Troyes, though with Michael Smith potentially leaving, it seems like another striker remains a priority.

The Star say that Danny Rohl is keen to further bolster the attacking department, along with a few other positions.

With Dejphon Chansiri now back in the country, it seems like Sheffield Wednesday will make a real push in the final week of the window, and they could find their perfect striker signing in Freddie Ladapo.

Freddie Ladapo tipped for Ipswich Town loan exit

The 30-year-old has been tipped to leave Portman Road on a temporary basis this month, with Ipswich looking like they too will add to their attacking ranks in the remainder of the transfer window.

It’s said that clubs in League One are paying attention too, but Ipswich might yet prefer to send him to another Championship club so that he continues to play at a higher level.

Despite Sheffield Wednesday’s league position, they’re a team who’ve made rapid improvements in the past few weeks and so for both Ladapo and Ipswich, Hillsborough might be an exciting option.

In 317 career appearances, the Englishman has netted 94 goals, with a record of 11 in 59 in the second tier.

Last season, former Rotherham United man Ladapo scored 17 League One goals as Ipswich earned promotion, with two in 17 in the Championship this season.

Sheffield Wednesday running out of options, but Ladapo would be huge

Sheffield Wednesday continue to miss out on transfer targets, with Myles Peart-Harris the latest to join the list of players linked with Wednesday this month, but to have secured a move elsewhere.

Expect the Owls to still have a long list of transfer targets. But as we edge towards deadline day, the best available options are quickly being snapped up and Wednesday might once again be left to feed off scraps on deadline day.

But Ladapo is still available and there’s no signs of a team making an immediate push to sign him.

His availability could be totally dependent on whether or not Ipswich sign a new striker themselves, or it could be a decision to want to make later in the window.

But Ladapo is a proven striker. He’s played in a fast-pace Ipswich side for two seasons now and so he could really compliment the high press that Wednesday, and his ability to play as a no.10 as well as a no.10 would give Rohl something he doesn’t really have right now.

On the whole it seems like a very smart and realistic potential signing for Sheffield Wednesday.
