Sheffield Wednesday face Coventry City in the Championship today, and there could be one key player battle on the pitch.
Sheffield Wednesday make the trip to Coventry for what promises to be another tough outing for the Owls.
Danny Rohl‘s side suffered a surprise defeat at home to Cardiff City last time out; many expected the Owls to continue their fine run of form, but despite taking the lead, Cardiff came from behind to win 2-1.
It was a frustrating result and one which leaves Sheffield Wednesday still six points behind Darren Moore‘s Huddersfield Town in 21st.
Coventry City meanwhile are up in 15th. They’ve had a mixed season so far but seem to be on the up, with Mark Robins’ side having now lost just one of their last eight, beating Sunderland 3-0 away from home in their last outing.
Coventry City’s upturn in form sparked by Callum O’Hare’s return
Former Aston Villa man Callum O’Hare returned from a year-long injury in October.
Robins has slowly been reintroducing him back into the side and now it seems like he’s back up to full speed having started four of the last five, scoring three in that time as well.
The 25-year-old attacking midfielder recorded 13 goal contributions in the 2021/22 Championship season with Coventry before his next campaign was cut short by injury.
He’s a talented no.10 is described as ‘incredible’ by Robins, with his trickery, pace, forward-thinking and finishing and passing ability making him a real handful for opposition teams.
How do Sheffield Wednesday deal with O’Hare today?
Whilst Coventry have a prolific no.10 who could cause Sheffield Wednesday some serous problems today, Rohl has a no.4 who could quite easily quash the threat.
Midfielder Will Vaulks has been influential in the recent upturn in form and he’ll no doubt have a key battle against O’Hare in the middle of the pitch today.
Vaulks has shone in recent games against Leicester City and Blackburn Rovers in particular; sitting in front of the defence, he’s proving to be a real defensive force making plenty of tackles, interceptions, and what not, whilst also covering ground and moving the ball around nicely.
Against Blackburn at the start of the month, Vaulks won more duels and more ground duels than any of his teammates, also making more passes than any of his teammates as well.
So Vaulks and O’Hare certainly looks like an intriguing battle.
If Vaulks can keep O’Hare at bay then he could largely keep Coventry at bay too, but if O’Hare can get past Vaulks then he’ll cause Sheffield Wednesday some serious issues.
