Sheffield Wednesday, led by Xisco Munoz, defeated Chesterfield 2-1 last night and fans were left buzzing after the performance of Joey Phuti. The youngster contributed to Lee Gregory’s late winner as fans of both clubs celebrated Drew Talbot during his testimonial.
Phuti is a product of the Wednesday youth academy. He played on the right-hand side during the second half last night, looking dangerous and busy throughout his time on the pitch.

This looks like a crucial time for the talented teenager. He’s been offered a first professional contract by the Owls and negotiations remain ongoing between the parties.
Xisco Munoz is clearly keen to see what the youngster is all about. So far, he must be quite impressed, with the youngster showcasing his pace and skill in abundance.
Phuti has come through the ranks with the youth team. He caught the eye in the FA Youth Cup last season and performed for both the under-18s and the under-21s.
Now, the ball looks to be in his court. Every Wednesday will see the appointment of Munoz as the chance for a clean slate and that includes the club’s burgeoning talents.
Phuti has Zimbabwean citizenship and at 18-years-old, he looks set for a bright future. On the club’s official website, he lists his biggest inspirations as Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Alphonso Davies.
Wednesday starlet Phuti could hand Munoz a conundrum
The arrival of a new manager could be extremely good for Phuti. He should take part in the club’s pre-season campaign and he has a chance to stake his claim.
Admittedly, it does look a long shot that he will force his way into a Championship team at this stage. However, he’s doing his chances so far no harm at all.

His cross last night was very decent and he looks energetic throughout. Naturally, the Owls were only playing a National League outfit and perhaps a loan to that level would be ideal.
A conundrum comes in when it comes to exactly how much Wednesday will have to spend this summer. Munoz will want to strengthen a number of areas and perhaps the budget won’t stretch across them all.
If Phuti continues to shine in pre-season, Munoz could find himself with a real conundrum when it comes to the youngster.
