Sheffield Wednesday boss Xisco Munoz thinks the club are close to new signings as the 2023/24 campaign edges closer.
Sheffield Wednesday and Southampton kick off the 2023/24 Championship season at the start of next month. But as things stand, Munoz might struggle to field a very strong starting XI with the Owls in dire need of player signings ahead of the new campaign.
Several names have been linked with a move to Hillsborough since Munoz arrived at the club earlier this month, including former Watford man Troy Deeney and free agent goalkeeper Axel Werner.
But when asked about the state of play regarding transfers and the possibility of Werner arriving at Hillsborough this summer, Munoz said:
“Now is the moment to have good choices. I don’t want to say anything because I could give information! But for sure we try to get a better choice because we know what is important for us.
“We are thinking we are close (to signings). I know the market is not easy. I know also we have very good players and we need work with either the same level or higher.”
Reece James is Sheffield Wednesday’s sole signing of the summer so far. But expect the Owls to make a few announcements before the start of next season – the summer transfer window slams shut on September 1st.
New signings needed at Hillsborough
A goalkeeper looks like a top priority for the Owls this summer with Cameron Dawson their only first-team goalkeeper.
But Munoz’s recent comments suggest that the club are hard at work in the transfer market and a few new signings could be close.
Plenty of needed but there’s plenty of options on both the free and loan market for the Owls, and Sheffield Wednesday remains a very attractive place for players – even more so after their promotion last season.
Expect to see a wave of new players arriving at the club this summer, but whether they’ll arrive in time for the start of next season remains to be seen.
