Izzy Brown’s footballing career has been full of obstacles and hurdles so far.

The Sheffield Wednesday midfielder isn’t enjoying the best of seasons at Hillsborough, failing to score single goal and crafting just one assist this seasonas the Owls battle relegation.

Brown has really struggled to make his mark at Wednesday, starting just three league games since joining on loan from Chelsea, and there may be even more bad news waiting around the corner for him.

Indeed, the Yorkshire outfit’s interest in Tyler Roberts may mean that game time is even harder to come by for the 24-year-old and to make matters worse, this exact situation has unfolded before.

Brown spent the 2018/19 season out on loan at Leeds. Unfortunately, an ACL injury kept him sidelined for the majority of that season, and when he came back he found himself way down the pecking order, behind even Roberts who was only a teenager at the time.

As much as we hate to say it, Brown could be set for the exact same fate once again. He’s already seemingly falled behind teenage midfielder Liam Shaw in the pecking order, and Roberts coming in would give the Owls yet another quality midfield option.

Brown must be sick of the sight of Roberts by now after watching him usurp him at Leeds a couple of years ago, and if Wednesday can get this loan deal over the line, it may happen again.

Fortunately for Brown, there is a way for both men to fit into the team as Roberts is capable of playing as a number nine, but that will bring about its own problems as the Wales international isn’t the most prolific finisher in the world.

Of course, it remains to be seen whether or not the Owls can strike a deal for Roberts, but if they do, it could have a big effect on Brown’s time at Hillsborough.
