Sheffield Wednesday have long had one clear aim for the January transfer window; signing a new striker.
Danny Rohl said on multiple occasions that bringing a new striker to Sheffield Wednesday this month was the aim.
And he and the club acted fast to bring in Ike Ugbo on loan from Troyes. But with the likes of Josh Windass, Lee Gregory, and Michael Smith all linked with moves away, signing another striker after Ugbo seems paramount.
Earlier in the season it was revealed that owner Dejphon Chansiri was ready to back Rohl and spend up to £30,000-a-week on the perfect loan striker.
More recently, Alan Nixon revealed that Chansiri remains determined to fulfil this promise, and there seems to be one perfect striker for this; Kieffer Moore.
Kieffer Moore remains at Bournemouth, but exit looking more probable
Moore, 31, was tipped to leave Bournemouth on loan earlier this month.
Since then, reports have outed Moore as Sunderland’s no.1 January transfer target, with a loan exit starting to look more and more probable for the 40-cap Welsh international.
And although Sunderland sit in 7th and Sheffield Wednesday sit in 22nd, the Owls shouldn’t be completely overlooked here.
Not everything is rosy at the Stadium of Light for Michael Beale with plenty of unrest among the fans after a mixed start to his tenure.
And Bournemouth will surely view this and consider whether Sunderland really would be the best place for Moore.
Sheffield Wednesday though; they could offer Moore plenty of game time and playing in a more positive and attacking Owls XI, contrary to their league position, could be better for all involved.
Sheffield Wednesday must act now
It’s no surprise to see Moore so in demand this month.
His scoring record speaks for itself; 102 goals in 344 career outings, 47 goals in 155 Championship outings, 12 goals on the international stage for Wales, and 20 goals in the 2020/21 Championship season for Cardiff City.
He’s steadily fallen down the pecking order at Bournemouth but remains a very well-regarded striker, and his attributes could make him potentially ideal for Sheffield Wednesday.
Rohl loves his team to press and Bailey Cadamarteri does that well. But the 18-year-old looks like he might be tiring a bit and he could so with some competition; Moore would be excellent competition for the teen given his pedigree, and for Rohl, Moore being more of a target man striker would give him a new outlet for the second half of the season.
Sunderland definitely seem keen but if Sheffield Wednesday can put their money where their mouth is, and get a deal over the line for Moore, it’d massively boost their survival chances this season.
