Joe Crann has revealed an important detail in Ike Ugbo’s contract following his move to Sheffield Wednesday.

Sheffield Wednesday have already been very busy in the January transfer window, snapping up James Beadle earlier this week, before landing Ike Ugbo from Troyes.

The striker spent the first half of the campaign on loan at Cardiff City, where he netted four goals in 22 games in all competitions.

The Owls only expressed interest in Ugbo a few days ago, but it wasn’t long before Troyes had recalled the forward and sent him back out on loan to Hillsborough.

Ugbo joins Bailey Cadamarteri, Mallik Wilks, Michael Smith, Lee Gregory and Ashley Fletcher as Sheffield Wednesday’s options up top.

The 25-year-old will be eager to earn his place in the starting line-up ahead of his teammates though, with the five of them only managing eight goals between them this term.

Danny Rohl has brought Ugbo on a short-term loan to help The Owls retain their place in the Championship.

The Star journalist Joe Crann has now confirmed whether Ugbo could have a future in Yorkshire beyond the summer, if he impresses.

Writing on X, Crann said: “There’s no option to buy for #SWFC with regards to Iké Ugbo, by the way… Straight loan until the end of the season.”

Sheffield Wednesday will be hoping Ike Ugbo can find some form for them, as relying on Bailey Cadamarteri for goals will only get them so far.

However, it will be disappointing for fans if he does enjoy his time here and then is forced to leave at the end of the season.

Could Sheffield Wednesday sign Ike Ugbo permanently?

It is unclear whether Troyes would be willing to part ways with Ike Ugbo in the summer, though he only signed a four-year deal with the French club back in 2022.

While he did only manage to score seven goals in 40 appearances for Troyes prior to his move to Wales, his parent club aren’t exactly doing very well without him either.

The Ligue 2 outfit currently sit 18th in the table, while Luka Ilic, Jaures Assoumou and Rafiki Said are currently their top scorers with only four goals each this season.

According to transfermarkt, Ugbo is worth around £2.15 million at the moment, though that is likely to increase if he enjoys a successful few months in the Championship.

Sheffield Wednesday haven’t coughed up that kind of cash since signing Jordan Rhodes and Joost van Aken during the 2017/18 campaign.

The Owls won’t be thinking too far ahead yet though. Ugbo needs to grab some goals and make a statement at Hillsborough before his future is reconsidered.
