Sheffield Wednesday need to bring back one forgotten star to help them stay in the Championship.
Sheffield Wednesday previously looked ever so close to climbing out of the relegation zone, but another dip in form has left fans nervously awaiting their fate.
Ike Ugbo previously looked like he could be the Owls’ saviour after netting six goals in five games, however he is now without a goal in the five that have followed.
This weekend’s results saw Wednesday became the lowest goal-scorers in the Championship (31 goals), while they have only managed one goal since their last victory.
Danny Rohl‘s limited options in attack means he hasn’t really been able to change things around, with his only real alternative proving to be Bailey Cadamarteri so far.
The Yorkshire outfit need someone with a decent goal-scoring record to help them in their final six games, and Ashley Fletcher certainly isn’t that person.
The 28-year-old consistently finds his way onto the Wednesday bench despite being incapable of finding the net, and it’s undeniably time for him to lose that spot.
Lee Gregory has been registered into Wednesday’s squad for the final month of the campaign, so now it is definitely time to bring him back into the fold.
The 35-year-old doesn’t need to start every game, but he should be given a chance after being sent away from the first team for a majority of the campaign.
Can Lee Gregory make the difference?
Rohl doesn’t seem to like Gregory too much, but the 6 ft 2 striker could really add another dimension to their attack and will certainly get the fans cheering given his relationship with them.
Gregory netted 28 goals and provided ten assists over two spells in League One, but hasn’t started a game for the owls since October.
He may be getting old, but it’s definitely worth a shot bringing him back into the team to add some height, experience and an eye for goal.
Fletcher is simply just wasting a place on the bench if he isn’t going to even get a game, never mind make an impact.
Whether Gregory gets his shot in the team over the next few weeks is yet to be seen, with Josh Windass and Callum Paterson also on their way back and could surely give the team a boost when they most need it.
But with Gregory likely to leave this summer, it would be a delight for fans to see him hit the back of the net and keep them in the Championship.
