Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl may have to alter one ‘idea’ made in regards to January.

Sheffield Wednesday are gearing up for a home game against Watford, which will see Danny Rohl’s side pitted against an in-form side looking to break into the Championship play-offs.

It will be a difficult test for the German boss’ side, however they showed that they will be up for the task after the solid display in midweek against Premier League side Brentford, who fielded a very strong team against Sheffield Wednesday’s somewhat second-string side.

Despite the positives on the pitch for the Owls, news broke last night that Sheffield Wednesday have been handed a transfer embargo, around a year since it happened in the midst of the 2023/24 Championship campaign.

Whilst it looks to just be a temporary issue in S6, it could suggest that Rohl may have to scrap one previous plan as a result of the news.

Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl may have to revise ‘clear idea’ for January window

Rohl has without a doubt been a revelation since he joined Sheffield Wednesday over a year ago, and many fans can say with confidence that they would not be in the Championship for the 2024/25 season without him.

His long term plans clearly see him continuing at Hillsborough with him discussing transfer plans for January and beyond previously.

The German boss suggested that he had a ‘clear idea’ for the January transfer window after previous talks with Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri, however they may need altering due to the recent embargo.

Whilst it is unlikely that the Owls will still be under such an embargo as January swings around, Sheffield Wednesday’s funds may still be on the lower side in light of recent events, and that will easily play into the potential that plans may have to be scrapped.

Danny Rohl will need extra assurance that transfer plans can be completed

As stated before, there is no doubt that Rohl has mapped out his plans for the season, and even the upcoming campaign, and this shows just how determined he is to keep Hillsborough a steady ship in the Championship for the short term.

However, on Chansiri’s side of the deal, there must be extra assurance in the future that Rohl’s optimistic, yet also realistic, plans are met with regular backing, as they arguably were in the summer leading up to the 2024/25 campaign kicking-off.

A transfer embargo, no matter how temporary, is never a brilliant sign of a club’s financial situation, and it really does provide a wake up call for genuine concerns as to why Sheffield Wednesday are facing similar issues to last season off-the field.
