Danny Rohl can reignite Sheffield Wednesday by unleashing ‘fantastic’ star who didn’t play vs Luton

Danny Rohl must look to one Sheffield Wednesday star to one fix ever-prominent issue in his side.

Sheffield Wednesday have had a very poor start to the campaign on the surface, with them being winless ever since the opening day victory against Wayne Rooney’s Plymouth Argyle.

The Owls now sit in 22nd place in the Championship, however they easily could have been higher up the table following two successive respectable performances against both Queens Park Rangers and Luton Town.

The game against Luton Town saw Sheffield Wednesday undone at the end following a red card handed to Di’Shon Bernard, but in the 75 minutes prior to the decisive moment in the game, it was a brilliant defensive display from Danny Rohl’s side, which was made even better by a brilliant strike from Barry Bannan.

Ultimately, the last two games have seen the continuous issues in front of goal spring up and Rohl must look to one player to help stop the rot.

Danny Rohl must turn towards Jamal Lowe to fix scoring issue

Sheffield Wednesday have scored just two goals in the five games since the opening day of the season, both of which were scored by Bannan.

That means that big summer signing Ike Ugbo is yet to get his first goal of the season after he arrived on a permanent deal, and as a result Rohl should potentially look elsewhere for a goal output in his side.

Jamal Lowe is ultimately the answer to that, and whilst for some reason he was unused in the loss against Luton Town, the player who has been described as ‘fantastic’ has a solid record of scoring in the Championship and would likely get Sheffield Wednesday back on track in terms of bagging goals.

Danny Rohl must take bold approach with frontline

Whilst Ugbo certainly hasn’t been at the levels that he produced in the back end of the 2023/24 season, where he performed incredibly well whilst on loan and contributed significantly to the Owls staying in the Championship, it is certainly unfair to place the entire side’s burden of struggling in front of goal on him.

The wingers certainly haven’t helped in front of goal, with Anthony Musaba and Josh Windass proving to be particularly wasteful in front of goal for Sheffield Wednesday, and it has got to a point where Rohl must be proactive in looking to find solutions to the goal drought.

Lowe bagged a goal on the opening day against Plymouth Argyle, and whilst he provided very little more prior to his injury that saw him sidelined for the 1-1 home draw against QPR, he has clear goal scoring prowess at this level, he bagged nine goals in the Championship last season with Swansea City.
