Xisco Muñoz is the new manager of Sheffield Wednesday. He was appointed on Tuesday evening and already he’s cracked the whip with the national media.
The Spaniard has been out of work since January when he was sacked by Anorthosis. He’s not worked in England since leaving Watford in October 2021.
Muñoz was treated extremely unfairly at the Hornets. He led the team to automatic promotion and was sacked with the club 15th in the Premier League.
Now, he’s the man tasked with replacing the popular Moore. The previous gaffer mutually departed Hillsborough last month after leading Wednesday back into the Championship.
Moore enjoyed an excellent rapport with the supporters. He’s one of the game’s good guys and the work he did at Wednesday won’t go unnoticed.
Muñoz is keen to move on though. He paid tribute to his predecessor but also seemed to ban any further talk of his tenure at Hillsborough.
He told the club’s official YouTube channel: “We need a new era, I don’t want to speak about what happened three weeks ago. Now I focus on my era, and I want the fans with us.
“We need positive things, and it’s important to forget what happened before. I want to speak about what we want, what we need, and what we try to give in the future. I know the Championship.
“I’ve won promotion to the Premier League, but we have to work very hard. I need everybody.”
Muñoz in at Wednesday and he wants to move forward
The Spaniard does have a point. It’s no good the national media asking about Moore every time they get the chance to interview the new manager.
Luckily, the local media were on hand after the first interview to ask Muñoz some proper questions about his style of play and what the fans can expect.
The 42-year-old seems like a good character for Wednesday to have appointed already. He spoke very well yesterday afternoon and he seems keen to get started.
Now, it’s time for the work to start. Moore’s play-off exploits will be etched into folklore forever but Muñoz is right that the club simply has to move forward now.
