Sheffield Wednesday and Darren Moore parted company yesterday.
The pair agreed to mutually part ways despite earning promotion from League One just a few weeks ago. The news has left Owls fans in shock, whilst also giving football neutrals something to discuss and speculate about.
And amid the reaction there’s been a flurry of former Wednesday players having their say on the news online, but Josh Windass seems like the first current player to break his silence on the news of Moore’s exit.
Windass was a key player for Moore during the 2022/23 League One campaign, scoring 12 goals and assisting seven more in the league, whilst also scoring the all important winner in the play-off final v Barnsley.
Taking to Instagram, Windass posted this message:
Windass enjoyed one of the best scoring seasons of his career last time round. Moore showed a lot of faith in the 29-year-old who struggled with injury during the 2021/22 season, but he returned to make 37 League One appearances last time round, before eventually sealing the club’s promotion in dramatic fashion at Wembley.
What next for Windass?
Windass has interest from Southampton and so his summer already looked like a contested one. But with Moore now gone and Wednesday looking to be in a bit of a mess, it could cast the future of Windass and some of his teammates into even more doubt.
The Owls don’t have a manager or a Head of Recruitment. They have the barebones of a side and the start of the season is just a month-and-a-half away.
Moore brought a lot of stability to the club during their two-year stay in League One. But with him now gone, the chaos is back at Sheffield Wednesday.
