Sheffield Wednesday may have to rearrange their FA Cup fourth round tie.
Sheffield Wednesday kicked off their FA Cup campaign in style as they thrashed Cardiff City 4-0 at the weekend.
The Owls were seeking revenge after suffering a narrow defeat to the Bluebirds in the Championship last month, with Akin Famewo‘s own goal proving to be the difference.
However, Danny Rohl‘s side enjoyed much more success this time round as they put on a memorable performance at Hillsborough.
Despite having less shots on target than Cardiff, Sheffield Wednesday claimed a comfortable victory on home soil. A first half mauling left the tie pretty much decided by half-time, before Mallik Wilks netted his first goal of the campaign to make it four in added-time.
The Yorkshire outfit will be brimming with confidence going into the next round, and will be fairly happy after they drew Coventry City.
Mark Robins’ side just beat Oxford United 6-2 at the Coventry Building Society Arena, while they are also unbeaten in eight games in all competitions.
The two teams are also scheduled to come up against each other in the Championship on January 20 – just a week before their FA Cup clash could take place.
Sheffield Wednesday are currently set to host Coventry in the fourth round at 3pm on Saturday January 27. However, they may be forced to reschedule.
Why could Sheffield Wednesday move their FA Cup fourth round tie?
Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United both progressed to the FA Cup fourth round at the weekend, with the latter claiming their own 4-0 hammering against Gillingham.
The Blades drew a much harder tie though, with Chris Wilder’s side set to host Brighton & Hove Albion.
Their match is also scheduled for exactly the same date and time as Sheffield Wednesday’s, which The Star’s Alex Miller has claimed will be a problem.
Writing on X, Miller said: “Both Sheffield clubs drawn at home in the FA Cup fourth round. One will have to budge from the Saturday.”
Rival clubs in the same city aren’t allowed to play at home on the same day to avoid any problems, meaning we could see one match moved to Friday January 26 or Sunday January 28.
Sheffield United are also due to travel to Crystal Palace the following Tuesday night (January 30), so it is highly unlikely that their match would be pushed back that weekend. Though this could either mean that the Blades play on the Friday, or the Owls could play on the Sunday.
