Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl has delivered an update on Josh Windass after he was omitted from the squad for last night’s game with Norwich.
The Owls saw their three-game unbeaten run come to an end, despite a spirited display. Windass wasn’t in the squad for the game and he might not play on Saturday either.
Rohl is still striving for consistency with his team. It certainly isn’t helped by the fact that he gets two or three more injuries to contend with every week.
Rohl delivers injury update on Josh Windass
The attacker has played in several different roles for Rohl since he arrived at Hillsborough. Windass was the man responsible for Wednesday winning promotion, with his header proving enough to defeat Barnsley.
After last night’s game, Rohl was quizzed on Wednesday star Windass and it doesn’t appear as though it’s particularly positive news for the player.
He told The Star: “Hopefully he’s back but it’s not easy. We have just two days between the games and he has a small injury – we’ll see day to day whether he’s available or not.
“It’s a busy time in this league, there’s not much time for recovery, but we’ll handle it. It’s a long way until January with a lot of games, and we’ll look at who’s available for Saturday.”
Wednesday star Windass has scored twice and claimed one assist so far during the 2023/24 campaign.
Wednesday need Windass back quickly
The experienced performer was in fine form last season as the Owls won promotion to the Championship. Now, Windass is an attacking talent who does have that bit of quality to help Wednesday.
The club won’t want Windass to be out for too long, with some huge fixtures to come before January. Wednesday have some really winnable games on the horizon and Rohl needs his best attackers available.
Against Blackburn recently, Windass proved the architect for Bailey Cadamarteri to score his first goal for Wednesday and he’s capable of scoring and providing.
Hopefully, Wednesday can get some positive news on the injury front soon. Michael Smith is currently out of action, with Lee Gregory seemingly a long way from making the squad these days.
It’s QPR next up for Wednesday and Windass will be fighting to get back. These comments suggest he’s losing the battle, however, and perhaps Rohl will need to come up with another solution.
