Sheffield Wednesday are back to winning ways and last night’s result couldn’t be any more timely.

The Owls bounced back from a 6-2 thrashing at the hands of Watford to beat Norwich 2-0 at Hillsborough last night.

Wednesday played far better last night and won the game thanks to goals from Josh Windass and Dominic Iorfa inside 34 minutes.

Iorfa did pick up a possible injury concern and that will leave Wednesday sweating over his fitness ahead of Sunday’s steel-city derby against Sheffield United.

Danny Rohl confessed some training secrets ahead of the Norwich clash and whatever he did in the aftermath of the Watford drubbing clearly worked.

Last night proved to be a big one for one Wednesday talent and perhaps November 2024 was the month that a new Owls star was born.

Gabriel Otegbayo makes Championship debut for Sheffield Wednesday

Just shy of the hour mark of last night’s fixture Iorfa was unable to continue and it was young Otegbayo summonsed from the bench.

The experienced Liam Palmer was among the substitutes and has played centre-back before but Rohl instead threw Otegbayo in.

It’s been a whirlwind few months for the youngster after joining initially on trial after his release by Burnley.

After a handful of games for the under-21s, Otegbayo is now seemingly part of Rohl’s plans and this time on the pitch will do him the world of good.

He only actually managed seven touches of the ball as Wednesday dominated but he did make two clearances, as Who Scored shows.

Otegbayo looked neat and tidy in possession, however, and did a good, solid job alongside Di’Shon Bernard.

Surely more game time will beckon for Otegbayo in the future.

Wednesday aren’t blessed with lots of central defensive options and perhaps this was the perfect time to unleash the youngster into Championship action.

Otegbayo looked calm and composed and after the match, it was crystal clear that his teammates had enjoyed his performance.

As the players applauded the fans, senior players were keen to ensure that the 20-year-old got the lionshare of the plaudits.

They were spotted pushing him to the forefront of the big group and it was a nice touch from the senior professionals.

Otegbayo still has work to do at Hillsborough but his confidence should now be sky high after helping the Owls see out this latest clean sheet.
