Sheffield Wednesday boss Xisco Munoz has refused to say how long Josh Windass and Barry Bannan will be missing. The Owls pair missed last night’s drubbing at the hands of Sunderland through injury.
Things are looking pretty bleak right now as a grey cloud hangs over Hillsborough. It shouldn’t have been this way of course, with Wednesday winning promotion through the play-offs back in May.
Last night they were put to the sword by a ruthless Sunderland outfit. Jack Clarke scored twice to continue his fine form, with Dom Ballard also getting among the goals.
Windass and Bannan are two leaders in the Wednesday dressing room and their absence was sorely felt last night. The Owls desperately need a win from somewhere and this form can’t continue.
Munoz doesn’t know when Bannan and Windass will return for Wednesday
After being quizzed on two influential players, the verdict from the manager was quite alarming. It would appear that he’s not quite sure when they will return with both currently injured.
Being in this form is one thing but not being able to call upon arguably the best two players is seriously detrimental. Munoz will be desperate for a break but he might not get one next week.
After last night’s game, he told Yorkshire Live: “Both were injured towards the end of the week. We’ll see how they recover.”
Wednesday desperately need star duo back
Both players can add something to the team when they’re fit. Right now, the team lacks real leaders and the pair were sorely missed during the defeat to Sunderland.
Windass and Bannan have been important players for a number of years now. With confidence in short supply in the dressing room, Munoz desperately need some leadership in the ranks.
Wednesday go to West Brom before facing Huddersfield at home this week. Those two games look mightily important and that first win can’t come soon enough for the Owls.
