Sheffield Wednesday captain Barry Bannan has suggested that Lyle Taylor would be a good addition to the squad. The experienced striker has been on trial with the Owls for the last fortnight as he chases a contract.

The 33-year-old has been without a club since leaving Nottingham Forest at the end of last season. He’d not played for the Reds in a competitive fixture since the 2021/22 campaign and football has been hard to come by.

Xisco Munoz is running the rule over the experienced striker. Wednesday haven’t won in the Championship yet this season and Taylor could be the sort of player who could help.

Bannan thinks Wednesday should sign Taylor

Nobody is more desperate to see a Wednesday revival than Bannan. The captain is a very popular figure at Hillsborough and he will be desperately hoping for a win soon.

Bannan has also suggested that Taylor would be a useful signing. He was quizzed on the trialist ahead of tomorrow’s game against Sunderland.

The Wednesday skipper told The Star: “He’s done alright, he’s been good. He’s come in and he’s been bubbly, really good to have around the place. He’s not short of confidence and he is quite loud!

“I remember coming in on the first day, it was as if he’d been here longer than me! That’s the sort of character you need to play in front of a packed Hillsborough.

“You need people that are not going to go under. He seems really good on that front. He’s not played a lot of football over the last couple of months so he’s still obviously trying to get up to speed.

“But he’s been good from what I’ve seen in training.”

Taylor could star is Munoz signs him

The experienced talisman will fancy a final crack at the Championship with Wednesday. He’s proven at this level and despite his advancing years, he will fancy that he’s still capable.

As Bannan says, Taylor isn’t short of confidence. Adding that level of swagger to the Hillsborough dressing room can only be a good thing and hopefully, a deal can be struck.

Wednesday aren’t blessed with many strikers. As a result, even if Taylor was only added as another option, it would still represent good business from the club’s perspective.
