Sheffield Wednesday host Sunderland in the Championship tomorrow night, in what is another very tough outing for Xisco Munoz’s side.
Sheffield Wednesday are really struggling right now. The Owls remain without a win in the Championship and they’re struggling in front of goal, with just five goals to their name all season and one in their last four league outings.
This week though has seen young striker Bailey Cadamarteri join in with first-team training.
He’s waiting to make his league debut for the Owls after progressing through the ranks, and he’s impressed with the club’s U21 side despite being just 18 years old.
Sheffield Wednesday recently posted a picture of Cadamarteri in first-team trianing with Munoz’s side, but the Spaniard has already revealed that the youngster won’t be featuring against Sunderland, despite his side’s lack of goals and energy up top.
Munoz said of Cadamarteri ahead of Sunderland:
“Not this weekend. But he’s one of the players that I have in my head. He’s one of the players we have in our academy with good potential – for me he’s a big talent for the future, and just now we need to know how we can reduce the process for him.”
No debut for Cadamarteri. Why not?
At this point, what does Munoz have to lose?
His current first-team strikers are failing to give him anything and so a debut for Cadamarteri, whether too soon or not, could give the Owls’ front-line a much-needed injection of energy and enthusiasm.
He’s been doing well for the club’s youth ranks and it looks like he’ll make his debut this season.
But it won’t be against Sunderland, it seems. It’s another really tricky outing for the Owls and another loss would surely pile much more pressure on Munoz, who’s coming under heavy scrutiny right now.
