The Rotherham United manager has taken a sly dig at Sheffield Wednesday ahead of the new season.
Sheffield Wednesday have made strides this summer and are in a much better position in comparison to this time last year.
S6 is brimming with excitement ahead of the 2024/25 Championship season, with the Owls having the assurance of having a manager who can get the best out of the current crop of players, as well as the recent high-profile signings that have led to the likes of Sheffield Wednesday fan-favourite Josh Windass issuing bold promotion claims ahead of the new campaign.
Windass, who signed a new contract to keep him at Hillsborough for the next term, has also been joined by Barry Bannan and Liam Palmer in committing his future to the club.
However, the feel-good factor at Sheffield Wednesday hasn’t stopped the noise on the easterly side of South Yorkshire with Rotherham United manager Steve Evans making comparisons between the Owls and the Millers.
Steve Evans comments on the ‘shape’ of Sheffield Wednesday
After returning to his role as Rotherham United boss, Evans has made bold comparisons to the Millers with both Sheffield Wednesday and United.
Per The Star, Evans said: “I love playing against the Sheffield clubs. Why wouldn’t you? We’ve always got a point to prove.
“We’re always that little pup looking up at the big boys. It’s great. That’s no disrespect to anyone. It’s the nature of the size of the clubs. We’re very proud of what we are, we’re very proud of our history.
“Where do we sit in the levels of clubs? We’re debt-free, we have a fantastic stadium, a fantastic owner and fans who would die for our club. We’re in really good shape. I don’t think that can be said about the big Sheffield clubs. But they’re both great, traditional clubs.”

Are Sheffield Wednesday still not in a ‘good shape’
It’s evident that in the early stages of the 2023/24 Championship campaign that Sheffield Wednesday were in a turbulent spell, both on the pitch and off of it.
Former Owls boss Xisco Munoz was unable to get a single league win during his short tenure, and unrest was prevalent amongst pockets of the supporters.
However, since Danny Rohl’s arrival, Sheffield Wednesday fans have never been more optimistic for their future.
Results clearly showed that Rohl is the best man to get anything out of the current crop of Sheffield Wednesday players, and Dejphon Chansiri has certainly backed the German boss this season.
Sheffield Wednesday fans could never even dream about this position in comparison to 12 months ago, something which suggests that League One outfit Rotherham United aren’t quite in as good of a shape as the Owls.
