Sheffield Wednesday host Plymouth Argyle in the Championship on Tuesday evening.
Sheffield Wednesday return to Hillsborough tonight where they welcome an out of sorts Plymouth Argyle.
The Owls remain three points from safety despite winning four of their last five Championship games, with the last being a 1-0 win vs Rotherham United.
But Danny Rohl‘s side have managed to drag the likes of Plymouth Argyle into the dog fight with the Green Army now sitting just two points above the drop zone in 16th.
Ian Foster’s side have won just one of their last six in the Championship, losing 2-0 against Ipswich Town last time out.
David Prutton backs Sheffield Wednesday to claim another ‘huge’ win
In their last five games, Sheffield Wednesday have picked up 12 points from a possible 15, beating the likes of Birmingham City, Millwall, Bristol City, and Rotherham.
And former Owls midfielder and now Sky Sports pundit David Prutton has backed Sheffield Wednesday to continue on their fine vein of form with another win tonight.
Prutton predicted a 2-1 win for Wednesday, adding:
“What a showing it has been from Sheffield Wednesday of late. Three wins on the bounce and they could be out of the bottom three soon enough. That seemed unimaginable a few weeks ago.
“Plymouth will be concerned about getting dragged in. There are just two points between themselves and the bottom three right now. This is a huge game, and the Owls have the momentum.”
‘Owls have the momentum’
Form right now is certainly with Sheffield Wednesday.
The form table from the last five games has the Owls in 3rd behind Ipswich Town and Leeds United, whilst Plymouth Argyle are in 19th.
And Plymouth have had a torrid away record all season taking just 12 points on the road; that sits them in 22nd place of the away form table.
So on paper, Wednesday should be winning tonight, and Rohl will be keen to put on another good showing with former Germany and Bayern Munich boss Hansi Flick set to attend Hillsborough tonight, and watch his former coaching prodigy in action.
As ever though, it won’t be a straight-forward game.
Sheffield Wednesday were frustrated in the game vs Rotherham last weekend despite having plenty of the ball and plenty of shots on goal, and expect Plymouth to shut up shop tonight and make it as difficult as possible for Wednesday.
What’s more is that the Green Army have some players who are really capable of causing damage, including Morgan Whittaker who’s scored 17 goals and assisted seven more in the Championship this season.
But like Prutton says, Sheffield Wednesday have the momentum, and another win could pull them level on points with the likes of Stoke City, Huddersfied Town, Birmingham City, and QPR who are all on 38 points.
