A former colleague of Sal Bibbo has told Sheffield Wednesday what they can expect from him.
According to The Star, the unnamed ex co-worker has described Bibbo as ‘personable’.
Sheffield Wednesday confirmed the appointment of goalkeeping coach Sal Bibbo this week, with BBC Sheffield’s Rob Staton sharing the news to his X account.
The 49-year-old is yet another addition during a complete overhaul of the Owls’ backroom staff, with Chris Powell and Sascha Lense already joining Danny Rohl through the door in Yorkshire.
Speaking following his arrival, Bibbo said: “The most important thing is how we help the players.
“Some players need one thing, another player might need something else. It depends on where they are in their journey and where they are with their form or where there game is. I’d like to think I’m adaptable and flexible and to have an idea of what the goalie needs to make them the best versions of themselves.”
Formerly a goalkeeper himself, Bibbo began his career with Baskingstoke Town. He enjoyed brief spells with Crawley, Sheffield United, Chesterfield, Ards, Reading and Havant & Waterlooville, before ending his playing career with Bath City in 2001.
Following his retirement, Bibbo rejoined Reading as a goalkeeping coach and signed on full-time in 2006. The former shot-stopper also became the goalkeeper coach of Arsenal’s U-23 team in 2019, but also helped the first team with the likes of Petr Cech, Bernd Leno and Emiliano Martinez.
He then arrived in Brighton in 2021, where he helped train the youngsters. Killian Cahill, a 20-year-old ‘keeper for the Seagulls, previously hailed Bibbo as ‘unbelievable’ and thanked him for helping him progress with the Premier League outfit.
What can Sal Bibbo bring to Sheffield Wednesday?
Cahill isn’t the only one to compliment Bibbo, with the former colleague describing his approach to coaching as ‘personable’ and ‘hard-working’.
Sal Bibbo clearly has plenty of experience coaching in English football and has even worked with some of the Premier League’s best in Petr Cech and Emiliano Martinez. The coach is also likely to have worked with Reading fan favourites, Ali Al-Habsi and Adam Federici.
Sheffield Wednesday will be eager for their new addition to get to work straight away and hopefully we can quickly see Cameron Dawson and Devis Vasquez benefit from his presence.
The former has picked up two clean sheets this season and has conceded 12 goals in eight games so far.
