Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl has said that it is ‘key’ that the club adds a head of recruitment before the January transfer window opens.
Wednesday have been without one since the departure of David Downes, who left for Blackpool in June.
After that, the Owls brought in 12 players in the summer window, with background figure Luke Dowling brought in to work part-time with recruitment analyst Dean Hughes to assemble a squad ready for the Championship.
Manager at the time, Xisco Munoz, was the person who drove the transfer policy at the club until his sacking in October. But it will be Danny Rohl this time round.
Rohl on need for head of recruitment
Speaking to the Sheffield Star, Rohl explained the importance to him of getting a head of recruitment in to the club before the January window opens, in a hint to owner Dejphon Chansiri.
“It’s a key position for me.
“I’m in good communication at the moment with the chairman, we speak very often about this topic.
“Hopefully we will find a quick solution and then we can prepare for the January window. Everybody knows that this is important that we make this next step as a club. It’s been good for me to have the support and also the good feedback.
Rohl added: “We have to choose the right person for the club and also the right fit for my philosophy. It has to be a good match for both sides. I think we will get someone. Hopefully in the next weeks.”
Wednesday need better signings in January
This is good news for Wednesday.
The recruitment in the summer, without a head of recruitment, was somewhat lacklustre.
Wednesday signed a lot of League One level players, mixed with players from foreign sides who were unproven in England.
Whilst Rohl may not have a lot to work with in January by way of permanent deals, loans will more than likely be the signing coming in January.
