Sheffield Wednesday have been warned of two Championship clubs who could look to snap up Danny Rohl this summer.
Danny Rohl is only in his first stint in management, but has been attracting plenty of attention since arriving at Hillsborough in October.
Sheffield Wednesday were seven points adrift at the bottom of the table when the German arrived, while he has now taken them to within a point of safety and has completely transformed the feeling around the club.
Rohl’s current goal is to keep the Owls in the Championship and he looks to have a very good chance at doing so, but anything beyond that is yet to be really spoken about.
The 34-year-old’s future at Sheffield Wednesday could entirely depend on what league they are in next term, but the club have been told it could be ‘incredibly difficult’ to keep hold of their star manager.
While there has been no concrete interest in Rohl as of yet, pundit Carlton Palmer has named two clubs who could look to swoop in at the end of the season.
Speaking to Football League World, Palmer said: “Sunderland and Watford are currently looking for a manager, and I think both will stay with their caretakers until the summer, which gives them time to cast an eye on who’s available.
“One man who’s making a lot of headlines is Sheffield Wednesday’s young manager, Danny Rohl. They were absolutely dead and buried, but he’s got them within touching distance of possible survival in the Championship which includes four wins in the last six games.”
“There’ll be a lot of interest in Danny, and the club should be worried and look to tie him down on a longer contract.
“If he gets the job done, the board should look to give him the tools required which see Sheffield Wednesday progress up the table. He’s proven what he can do with a squad of players and minimal additions in the transfer window, but he’s got them compact and playing in a system which has brought results.
“This would be a worrying time for Sheffield Wednesday, as he and his backroom staff – such as Chris Powell – have done a fantastic job. They just need to complete it, but I’m sure they will be sought after.”
What will it take for Danny Rohl to leave?
Sheffield Wednesday may have to accept defeat on keeping hold of Danny Rohl if they go down, but I think they will have quite a good chance if they stay up.
Unless a Bundesliga club come in for him, I think Rohl will thrive off the challenge given to him at Hillsborough. Other Championship clubs could be interested, but the German genuinely believes in what he is building at Sheffield Wednesday and would surely prefer to try for promotion to the Premier League with the Owls rather than another team.
Sunderland’s current dramatic downfall and lack of control for their manager surely makes them less of an attractive proposition, while Watford may only hold an advantage because they are close to London.
