Danny Rohl has explained what Sheffield Wednesday now need to do following the conclusion of the January transfer window.
Sheffield Wednesday played out a rather nervy window, despite snapping up James Beadle and Ike Ugbo early doors.
The Owls tried their best to bring in a new striker and looked likely to sign Colorado Rapids striker Duncan McGuire, before missing out to Blackburn Rovers on deadline day.
Thankfully, Danny Rohl’s side did eventually seal deals for Ian Poveda and Kristian Pedersen, but they failed to make any permanent signings and are still lacking much of a goal threat.
The German has already admitted that the club will look to the free agent market now, while he has also said that he would hold a review of their January transfer business and prepare for the summer.
“”We will do this in the next week,” he told The Star. “For the future we have to take things from this transfer window to take the step forward and prepare for the next one. The next one is the most important one, we always know this.
“There is a big difference between the January window and the summer window, the summer window is over a long period of time and to go forward we must start next week to start for the summer window. This is our job and I think there are things we can take and go forward.”
Who could Sheffield Wednesday sign now?
Sheffield Wednesday will have to act fast if they are to secure a quality free agent attacker, with a number of EFL clubs likely to do the same thing.
One name who has already been linked with the Owls is Dwight Gayle, whose contract with Stoke City has just been terminated.
The 34-year-old hadn’t scored in the Championship this term, but has netted 62 goals and provided 21 assists in 145 appearances in the second tier during spells with Newcastle, West Brom and the Potters.
Lucas Joao is also available after leaving Shanghai Port, having previously scored 29 goals for Sheffield Wednesday during his four year stint at Hillsborough.
Former Bournemouth striker Lys Mousset is a free agent after leaving VfL Bochum, while Connor Wickham is still looking for a new club after leaving Cardiff in the summer.
