Sheffield Wednesday midfielder George Byers has been praised by the media after his performance in the 1-0 defeat away at Bristol City.
Wednesday lost 1-0 after Bristol City centre-back Rob Dickie scored in the 64th minute to give the managerless side a victory after two consecutive losses.
The Owls were not helped by star man Barry Bannan, who received a straight red card in the 32nd minute for the denial of a clear goal-scoring opportunity.
Journalists hail ace for performance
Yorkshire Live journalist Ricky Charlesworth gave Byers a seven out of 10 in his player ratings, hailing him for his ‘incisive’ performance.
“Was on it from the word go. Buzzed about and was incisive with his decision-making. Got the armband after Bannan’s early exit and tired, understandably.”
Joe Crann of the Sheffield Star also gave Byers a seven out of ten in his player ratings, praising him for his ‘silky’ display.
“Seems to be getting back to his best in the defensive midfield role that Röhl is asking of him. He has all the attributes required, and his silky touches under pressure didn’t go unnoticed. Took the armband after Bannan’s dismissal.”
Byers starting to improve
Byers has started every game for manager Danny Rohl besides his first game in charge and has started to pick up in form once again.
He has made twelve Championship appearances so far this season, with one assist.
Byers has recently opened up on his own disappointment when assessing his own personal form at the start of this season, and he is certainly showing an improvement.
Rohl will be hoping he can continue his form, especially with Bannan now suspended.
