Sheffield Wednesday midfielder George Byers has opened up on his form since the start of the season, saying he has been ‘disappointed’.
Wednesday are coming off the back of their first win of the season, a 2-0 victory over fellow strugglers and Yorkshire rivals Rotherham United on Sunday afternoon.
Former Rotherham striker Michael Smith grabbed both goals against his former club.
Wednesday star honest on his start to the season
Speaking in the pre-match press conference ahead of the Owls’ trip to Bristol City, as relayed on the club’s X account (formerly known as Twitter), Byers gave an honest assessment on his performances so far this season.
“I’ve been disappointed with my start, I have been up and down so I’ve not been pleased but, I feel I have turned a corner now and was really pleased with my performance on Sunday. I’m back enjoying myself on the pitch and I want to keep my consistency up.”
Byers starting to pick up in form
Byers has made eleven appearances in the Championship so far this season, with one assist.
After not making an appearance in manager Danny Rohl’s first game in charge, he has since started both games, with an average rating of 7.3 on FotMob across those two matches. Hopefully the former Scotland -17 international can keep his form up.
After a difficult start to the season on and off the pitch for everyone involved at Wednesday, everyone will be hoping Sunday’s win will kickstart their season in the hopes they can avoid relegation.
Wednesday’s next match is a trip to managerless Bristol City on Saturday afternoon.
