Sheffield Wednesday have been rocked by the news that Juan Delgado has undergone surgery. The Owls performer missed the 0-0 draw with Huddersfield and now some details have been clarified.
The Chilean signed for Wednesday during the summer transfer window when Xisco Munoz was in charge of the club. The 30-year-old checked in from Pacos de Ferreira in Portugal and has made 12 appearances this season.
Now, the player might be set for a spell on the sidelines. He won’t be playing for Chile this month and could now be set to miss some of Wednesday’s games when domestic football returns.
Delgado has surgery after missing Wednesday draw
The 30-year-old has been a regular in the Wednesday team since he arrived in the summer. Now, he could be denied the chance to impress the new manager with one set to be appointed in the coming days.
According to The Star, the player has been sent back to Hillsborough to continue his rehabilitation. The Chilean FA have announced that the player will definitely not be featuring for his country in the next week or so.
He will miss some big fixtures for Chile. They take on Venezuela and Peru in World Cup qualifiers but this surgery has ended his chances of collecting more caps.
Delgado set for spell on the sidelines
The beauty of Delgado has been his versatility. So far during his time at Hillsborough, he has featured as a left-back, a right-back and in both wide positions going forward.
Ultimately, beggars can’t be choosers right now. Wednesday are rock bottom of the Championship with three points from 11 games and the new manager will want his whole squad to be fit.
The player has 13 caps for Chile and that level of experience isn’t overly evident in the squad. Hopefully, the rehab goes smoothly for Delgado and he can be back on the pitch very soon for Wednesday.
