Sheffield Wednesday just can’t catch a break this season, and on Monday afternoon, another bombshell was dropped on the football club.

Wednesday produced a spirited performance against Preston on Saturday, with Paul Heckingbottom hailing the Owls for their efforts against the Lilywhites.

Henrik Pedersen, the club’s loyal head coach, knows that this season will be nothing but a tough slog, and given the news on Monday, it would appear that this season is now essentially a complete write-off, if it wasn’t already.

Sheffield Wednesday deducted another six points

The EFL have today been in touch with Wednesday to let them know that a further six points have been deducted from their total for the campaign.

According to Sky Sports, this is on the back of the club failing to pay their players on time in March, May and June, with non-payments to the staff and the HMRC.

Earlier this season, the club were hit with a 12-point deduction after filing for administration in October, with the latest setback taking the Owls to -10 points.

Wednesday will almost certainly be relegated this season and now the fans will look towards a potential purchase of the club, with one eye on a promotion tilt in League One next season.

Dejphon Chansiri news is positive at the very least for Wednesday

Frankly, it’s farcical that Chansiri will be allowed to hold ownership of another EFL club in three years time, but at least he’s been served with some form of punishment for his time at Hillsborough.

Chansiri has been a complete blemish on the great history of Sheffield Wednesday Football Club and this punishment is the absolute least that he deserves.

His stubbornness to put any money into the club towards the end, leaving staff and players unpaid, threatened to send this wonderfully historic club into extinction, and that simply won’t do.

In fairness, the EFL should be doing a lot more to ensure that the likes of Chansiri and owners of this nature are nowhere near the beautiful game, and many will feel three years isn’t long enough.

However, at least some action has been taken and now Wednesday, can at least have some closure and look forward to a pending takeover of the club happening in the near future.
