Sheffield Wednesday managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory against Preston North End as the wait for a win goes on.
Not since September, when Wednesday defeated Portsmouth 2-0, have the Owls tasted the sweetness of a victory, and on this occasion it was Preston who kicked Wednesday whilst they were down.
Charlie McNeill scored twice to give the Owls a 2-1 interval lead, and the former Manchester United youngster missed a second-half penalty to further enhance Wednesday’s chance of a result.
However, goals from Lewis Dobbin and Mads Frokjaer-Jensen ensured that it was Paul Heckinbottom’s men who left South Yorkshire with all three points.

What Paul Heckingbottom has praised Sheffield Wednesday for
Football is a cruel mistress at times, and when the chips are down, they’re really down, with the Owls desperately needing a lift or some positivity from somewhere.
Heckingbottom played for Wednesday during his playing career, and after seeing his team collect all three points at Hillsborough, he had some kind words for the depleted team.
He told the Sheffield Star: “It was about dealing with them breaking. They just kept running off us, we were really loose…I know when I watch it back, there will be lots that I’m not happy with, but it’s a reminder. I’ve been trying to say all week how dangerous Wednesday are, and they’ve still got talented players.
“They suffer because the squad is small, so they suffer when there are injuries and suspensions, but they have good players, and they’ve been like a wounded animal when competing. There’s only been odd games when they’ve been turned over, which is to be expected. Anyone who saw them Wednesday night against Millwall could see how up for the fight they are.”
One win can change the mood around Sheffield Wednesday
The fans have started to return to Wednesday in their droves after Dejphon Chansiri’s departure, and not since the controversial former owner placed the club into administration have Wednesday won.
As Heckingbottom says, the competitive nature is still in the Wednesday squad, and although League One football will be on the cards next season, a win would give the whole club a big lift.
Wednesday have a lot of talent within their squad, and ultimately the fight is on show each week among the Owls players who are determined to get some positive results between now and the end of the season.
A new owner can’t come soon enough for the Wednesdayites, and hopefully, there will soon be something to celebrate in that sense.
