Sheffield Wednesday have been told what their biggest ‘problem’ has been all season.
Sheffield Wednesday’s weekend went from bad to worse as they were beaten 2-0 by Middlesbrough, just days after failing to win a huge six-pointer against Swansea City.
The Owls are now without a win in their last six matches, but remain frustratingly close to safety at the bottom of the Championship table.
Danny Rohl‘s side heavily relied on the goals of Ike Ugbo during their fantastic purple patch before the international break, but their creativity seems to have dried up in recent weeks and they are once again failing to hit the back of the net.
With only one goal in their last four matches, Wednesday’s problems in front of goal got dramatically worse yesterday.
After Rotherham United beat Millwall, the Owls now have the lowest goal tally in the Championship (31 goals).
While they have tried so many different frontlines this term – including the likes of Mallik Wilks, Lee Gregory and Michael Smith – their failure to score goals has been a ‘huge problem’ since they were promoted.
Sheffield Wednesday’s terrible goal record
Journalist Dom Howson has claimed this is ‘nowhere near good enough’ for a team battling relegation.
He wrote on X: “A below-par Easter for #SWFC. Four without a win. Lack of firepower has been a huge problem all season, particularly away from home. Have only score 10 goals on their travels – the lowest tally in the league. Nowhere near good enough. Have to go and get a result at QPR.”
Where will the points come from?
While two of their most recent wins came away from home, Wednesday have failed to score in 12 of their 20 matches on the road this season.
While their struggle to score goals has occurred at home too, their poor record on the road means that they may have to depend on picking up points at Hillsborough if they are to avoid relegation.
Rohl’s side have Norwich, Stoke and West Brom to come on home turf – none of which are a guaranteed three points.
The Potters will be their best chance to pick up a win, while Norwich’s record of two wins in their last ten away games could give them some hope. Meanwhile, West Brom are unbeaten in their last six, so the Owls would have to be at their very best to scrape a result against them.
