Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri is once again making headlines after the club’s latest transfer embargo.
Sheffield Wednesday were hit with a transfer embargo in October 2023 and are now facing a similar problem almost exactly a year on.
It was confirmed on November 1 that the Owls have been placed under a registration embargo by the EFL over amounts owed to HM Revenue and Customs.
It means the Yorkshire outfit can now not register any players without prior written consent.
In a statement, Sheffield Wednesday said: “This is a temporary issue and a consequence of significant and as yet unpaid sums of money owed to the chairman which in turn has impacted on the club’s immediate cashflow.”
While it looks to be a temporary issue, it could force Danny Rohl to scrap a January transfer plan.
Rohl had a ‘clear idea’ for the January transfer window but thanks to owner Dejphon Chansiri, it may need to be put on the backburner.

Carlton Palmer defends Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri
Earlier this year, Chansiri wanted to attract new investment at Sheffield Wednesday but has so far failed to do so.
Fans have grown tired of their chairman, as shown in the image above, but former player Carlton Palmer has now issued a pretty bizarre defence of Chansiri.
Speaking to Football League World, Palmer claimed the Thai tycoon has not a ‘fantastic’ job and needs to be cut some slack.
He said: “Sheffield Wednesday find themselves under another EFL embargo due to cash flow issues.
“There has been a statement from the football club saying that Dejphon Chansiri is owed money, and that money was due to be paid, but it has not yet been paid.
“They expect the matter to be resolved quickly, and the players’ wages have been paid on time, it has just been described as a cash flow issue.
“I think the chairman has done fantastic this summer for the football club, he did fantastic last season when he put his hand in his pocket to get Danny Rohl and bring in the players he has.
“He has spent an awful lot of money. It’s not a good look for Sheffield Wednesday, but I think the chairman needs to be cut some slack given what he’s done.”

Danny Rohl will be worried about Sheffield Wednesday financial situation
While Palmer thinks the embargo is only a short-term problem, it is becoming clear that Chansiri is struggling to keep Sheffield Wednesday afloat.
The Owls are performing slightly better than last season but it is clear further investment is needed in the squad.
However, with a second embargo now in place in the space of 12 months and Chansiri looking for investors, Rohl should be worried about his side’s future.
The German needs to be assured that the resources are there to back the club properly and will no doubt want to speak with the owner as soon as possible.
