Last night’s 3-0 defeat at home to Sunderland has equalled an unwanted Championship record for Xisco Munoz’s Sheffield Wednesday side.
Wednesday have failed to win any of their opening nine league games, drawing twice whilst losing the other seven matches.
The tally of just two points has equalled the lowest number of points picked up after nine outings in second-tier history, matching that of Bolton in 2017/18.
Should Munoz’s side lose to West Brom at The Hawthorns on Tuesday night, the Owls will set the record for the worst-ever start to a Championship campaign after 10 games.
Xisco Munoz on yet another defeat
Speaking after the defeat to Tony Mowbray’s side last night, boss Munoz admitted that he doesn’t know how long he will be given to try and turn Wednesday’s fortunes around.
“I don’t know.
“This is one question that you need to ask the big boss [Chansiri].
“We need to understand the situations, be mature, and if you do concede then you need to have the capacity to react. Right now we’re in this moment, we received two goals from two shots, and after the game was dead.”
A real mess from top to bottom
The statement from owner Dejphon Chansiri really added to the toxic atmosphere at Hillsborough at the minute.
No owner should threaten the fanbase as Chansiri did in his statement yesterday. Understandably he is frustrated with the situation at the club, but calling out supporters who live and breathe the club is unforgivable.
The fortunes on the pitch aren’t much better, with Munoz starting to look like a dead man walking.
A complete reset from the hierarchy, to the coaching staff and some first-team members is desperately needed.
